Ricci's reading 091 project
Week 1.
The first week of class went well. Even though it was very stressful and confusing. The first day of class we went over syllabus and talked about the read aloud program. Then we took a tour of the library to figure out how to look up books and stuff and we went on a scavenger hunt.  We went over the intro and part one. in part one we took the inventory, Brain test, Internet activity and the stress inventory test. I learned that I’m a visual and auditory learner. I helped me realize that I do remember things better when I have pictures and it has lots of color. Also when I use flashcards and when I participate in class I remember things because I was being active in the conversation. Then we took tour of the library to figure out how to look up books and stuff and we went on a scavenger hunt to get use to the writing lab resources. In class on Wednesday we split into groups and were assigned chapters. Then in our groups we chose which story we were going to read. And we came up with a lesson plan for our stories. On the day we had off I went to the library to get a book. I couldn't find one that would seem interesting to the kids. So I had to go to the chandler library. Even then it was difficult to find a picture book the kids will enjoy. But I found a good book.

Week 2.
The book i read out the textbook was called T.V . And it was perfect because i had picked a picture book called Penny lee and her t.v. I came up with flashcards and a test for my book . Tuesday was the first day we meet with the kids. At first i was kind of nervous meeting with the kids but after the first group i wasn't so nervous. The kids were really excited to be there and were eager to learn. It was exciting for me just to be able to be the one teaching them new things and reading to them. Some of the kids were a little stand offish but once we got to talking more the became less shy. Our lesson plan for that day was the four modes of writing. Most of the kids knew descriptive, narrative and persuassive. The only one they really didnt know was expository. The next story i read out the textbook was The sheperds daughter. The next time we met with the kids my lesson for the day was main idea and details. The kids figured out the details but they had a hard time figuring out the main idea out of the story. We finished reading the story early because our stories we short this time. So we talked to the kids and got to know them. One of the kids i actually knew her older brother because we went to the same elementry school. I found that interesting because its such a small world. The kids seem to enjoy when we asked them questions about themselves.

 Week 3.
In class on moday we worked on our websties basically the whole time. From the textbook i read Inside a vicious heart. The lesson plan for that tuesday was inference, figurative languge and tone. The book i was reading for the kids was called The ant and the grasshopper. I chose this book because it had alot of figurative languge in it. Coming up with flashcards wasnt so hard because it had alot of difficult words in it. The kids were sad it was their last week. I was surprised that some of them even mentioned that they will miss me and lauren. On wednesday in class we just worked on our website and were assgined a new part. In the textbook i read The defendants characteristics. My last lesson plan was about bias. I read Henry's freedom box to the kids.  They didnt really understand the meaning of bias but after we got done they had an understanding about what it meant. The kids made us cards it was so cute. My favorite card was from my reading buddy memi because she put our little jokes we came up with when we finished reading early and she wrote about how much she enjoyed being with us and she said she learned alot. It made me happy to think i actually taught something to someone. Lauren and I took pictures with the kids and we talked and laughed which was also fun. I really enjoyed the read aloud program and i hope that i can do something similar to it in the future.
